Thinking about Literacies at Play (2)

Let’s explore another sample of children’s engagement, this time in a much more verbal way.

Watch this two-minute video. Then re-watch it jotting down the details you see.

What do your observations lead you to think? Is this child engaged with literacy?

As an early childhood educator I was taught to recognize and look for child development milestones. This child exceeds my expectations of typical child development in the areas of oral language, memory and expression.

What is the role of checklists and developmental milestones when children do not meet, or they exceed our expectations?
